Update: Apple patched exploit used by GPP in beta version 5. Gpp no longer works.
If there is one question that I have been getting more than any other lately its “does the gpp sim interposer work with iOS 7″ . The answer is YES! We have done some extensive testing with the newest beta version 1 of iOS 7 and have been able to get all iPhone 4s’s to connect without any issues.
In the past Apple has made a valiant attempt to patch the baseband so that all previous sim interposer solutions would not be compatible with the next. For example, the Gevey sims that unlocked iOS 4.3.5 did not work with any version of iOS 5 including the first beta versions and the same goes for the R-Sim unlock solution from iOS 5.1.1 to iOS 6.
This raises one question in my mind… Has Apple purposefully decided to stop patching the baseband or have they just overlooked this one. Maybe, it will be patched with the final version. One thing is for sure- Apple has to make more money when unlock solutions become available. Unlocked iPhone’s means more people can use them and therefore Apple sells more iPhones.
Recently companies like AT&T and Verizon have put less and less restrictions on iPhone unlocking. They may have just come to realize that locking iPhones doesn’t equal higher customer retention. Just because I chose to unlock my AT&T iPhone 5 doesn’t mean I can now run off and join T-Mobile…. Well, I suppose I could but that wouldn’t excuse me of the financial obligation I made when I signed my two-year commitment. What do you thing?
